“How Do I Make More Time For My Side Business?”

The good news is you don’t need to ‘find’ more time; you need to ‘make’ more time. For example, if you had a doctor’s appointment in the middle of your workday, you would make the time to go to it, you would work around it, right? Because it’s important to you, right? If your side business is important to you, you will make time.

When you think you have to ‘find’ the time, you're setting yourself up for failure. Before you even start, you feel like you are lacking, failing at finding time. Your mind goes looking for more time, creating anxiety and stress, and it doesn’t feel rewarding or exciting to put forth the effort to begin creating your side business.

 1. Firstly, get clear and write down what is this side business is going to provide you – Find your ‘why’. Is it freedom? Creative expression? Security? When you immerse yourself in the thought of it, it becomes emotional, and you create momentum to put in the effort.

2. When it’s put in your calendar, it becomes part of your week.  You are making time for it by scheduling it in your calendar.

 3. Try to pick a time of day that works best for you in terms of your energy. Maybe that means getting up an hour earlier or doing something on your lunch hour. You want to see progress? Set yourself up to succeed.

 4. Start off with small incremental steps so you don’t get overwhelmed and quit too soon. Spend 45-60 minutes a day and build on it as the weeks go on.

 5. Recognize the small wins in the week and reward yourself for them. You are rewiring your brain to notice progress.

You’ve already taken the first step by asking the question. That tells me you’re ready. Now, let’s make time work for you, not against you!

What’s one small change you’re willing to try first? I’d love to hear.
